𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙣 𝙕𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙞 (1985) is a visual artist working predominantly in the field of painting and spatial forms, an author of monumental sculptures and stage designs. Zawicki’s practice, rooted in the spirit of realism, engages with the ontology of painting and explores the relationship between reality and its visual representation. Central to his work is a distinctive creative method: Zawicki’s paintings are based on small-scale models he constructs—miniature three-dimensional worlds, postmodern still lifes, or anthropomorphic figures—which he then transfers onto canvas, often on a large scale. In his search for contemporary modes of painterly expression, he employs the traditional techniques of oil painting while openly acknowledging his grounding in the legacy of classical art. At the same time, the content of his work addresses current issues, engaging with the broader concerns of late capitalism, ecological themes, and the decline of the Anthropocene.
Born in 1985 in Szczecin. Graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk in 2010, where, after receiving his doctorate (2015) and habilitation (2021), he works as a university professor. Winner of many competitions, including Strabag Artaward (2021), the Kazimierz Ostrowski Award (2023), the Gdańsk Theatre Award (2023). Participant in dozens of group and solo exhibitions. His works are in numerous collections, including the Gdańsk Contemporary Art Collection, STRABAG Kunstforum, the National Museum in Gdańsk, MCSW Elektrownia, Galeria Bielska BWA, Ergo Hestia, Krupa Art Foundation and others. He lives and works in Gdańsk.
Winner of both the Grand Prize and the Audience Award at the 8th Gdańsk Biennial of Art. In 2025 he was awarded the honorary distinction “Meritorious for Polish Culture”.
